Labradorite History

Coming from the region of Labrador in Canada, labradorite stone was discovered by Moravian missionaries in 1770 being there to work on certain native peoples, notably the Inuits. They were in charge of evangelizing them. The Innu (Montagnais-Naskapi) and Inuit peoples believed that labradorite stone was nothing more or less than a stone of fire from the aurora borealis in the north and south of the planet.

According to them, it was frozen by the cold at the highest point and then fell to the ground. Labradorite was first named by geologist Foster in 1780, who simply chose the name in reference to the place where he discovered it, the Canadian region of Labrador.

According to some beliefs, the Northern Lights first appeared after an Inuit warrior struck a Labradorite stone with his spear. Labradorites represent rays of the aurora borealis enclosed in the rock. According to the same beliefs, labradorite plays a similar role by enclosing the souls of ancestors. For some people, labradorite is considered a powerful remedy and a healing gas pedal. It is sometimes ground into powder to make elixirs and soothe pain.

In 1940, a new deposit of labradorite stone was discovered while many miners were learning to design traps to stop enemy tanks. Labradorite was offered for sale under the name Spectrolite. Commonly called "rainbow moonstone", labradorite is also known as carnatite, mauilite, silicite, spectrolite, radauite or hafnefjordite. If this stone has so many names, it is probably because it is one of the most popular stones in the world.

Throughout the different civilizations, it is so well known that many people have given it a particular name, often with a legend to go with it. Symbolically, it is used as a decorative and ornamental object on buildings. It also represents a precious stone that must be cared for and for which reflections are non-existent.

Today, it is mainly found in the form of jewelry such as bracelets, rings, pendants, etc.. Its colors are so breathtaking that it is one of the most prized stones in the field of jewelry (especially since the recent discoveries of red and amber labradorite varieties giving a copper effect).

ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION OF LABRADORITE

Belonging to the feldspar group, labradorite stone is composed mainly of sodium and calcium aluminosilicate. It also contains traces of iron, water and potassium. Thus, it belongs to the group of silicates, and more particularly to the subgroup of tectosilicates. On the Mohs scale, labradorite's hardness is set at 6.5 and its density is around 2.70. A recognized mineral, labradorite has colors such as green and blue with an occasional metallic sheen.

This reflection is the adularescence effect or also known as the Schiller phenomenon. This phenomenon on labradorite thus offers a mirror effect on the surface being directly linked to the different layers that compose it. Moreover, it is to its unique and sparkling colors that it owes its undeniable success. Once under your eyes, labradorite can change color depending on the light. When meticulously cut and polished, it seems to be wearing a magical ornament that shines with a thousand lights.

The main deposits of labradorite stone are located in Australia, Canada, the United States, France, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia and Ukraine. Labradorite stones form naturally in magmatic and metamorphic rocks. Today, labradorite is widely used in jewelry and in the design of jewelry such as labradorite necklaces and labradorite bracelets.

There are different qualities of labradorite. The quality of the stones ranges from E to AAA generally. When it is exposed to the sun, you can immediately see its brilliance and its quality level. There are many, many labradorite gemstones, with a beautiful range of labradorescent varieties. If you see little reflection in the sun, turn it significantly and you should see beautiful colors appear. The most beautiful labradorite usually comes from Madagascar, but also from Mexico or the Labrador region.

When exposed to the sun, it is called labradorescence. Very recently, deposits of the gem have been found, again in Madagascar, with a red color, almost the color of amber. This gem is found in many varieties and sizes.

The variety and quality differ from the deposit where it is extracted; the most frequent are the variety of red, orange, amber, copper, and the most common in a blue and green labradorescence. At the European level, many gems are imported directly from Madagascar and make it possible to create a wide range of jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, pendants, earrings, rings) from exceptional beads and cabochons.

LABRADORITE PROPERTIES IN CRYSTAL HEALING

In crystal healing, the labradorite stone is known for its protective virtues. It is extremely protective by absorbing the negative, but also by being a shield in its own right. Labradorite protects from the surrounding negative by absorbing it until it is totally dissolved.

Worn in jewelry, such as a labradorite pendant or earrings, in contact with the skin, labradorite develops one's attractiveness to others. Attached to a cord, a copper, silver or gold chain, the labradorite drop pendant (or other form) must be in contact to have a perfect effect. Worn as a ring, the impact will be smaller because the gem will be smaller but its effects will be there anyway.

This stone is therefore highly recommended for lonely people who have difficulty leaving their comfort zone, in need of security. The action of labradorite is recognized as regenerative at the physical and mental level following periods of exhaustion. The aura thus finds a harmony and rebalances itself by the means of the stone.

If you place an object such as a labradorite ball to balance and harmonize the energy in a place like the living room or bedroom, remember to clean it frequently so that it can recharge itself from the surrounding negative waves, your place will be sanitized. In addition, you will notice that labradorite stone can vary in hue, from pale to not so pale and vice versa. Generally, its dominant colors are blue, green and gold. You will note that it is also possible to see it crack and then return to its natural state.

This simply means that it has offered you its full powers and that it is unfortunately time to part with it, as it will no longer be as effective. The labradorite stone is applied in crystal healing at the level of the heart or the solar plexus. For example, if you place an orange stone on your solar plexus with labradorite next to it, your patient's pain will subside and the harmful energies will be absorbed by the labradorite gem.

LABRADORITE MEANING ON THE MENTAL LEVEL

On the psychological level, the labradorite stone allows to eliminate the negative thoughts and all the mental ruminations which prevent you from being happy. It makes your mind clearer, more structured and more positive. You can use it in meditation to learn to focus on the present moment.

Labradorite gems eliminate stress, anxiety, sadness and dark thoughts. They promote inner calm, mental relaxation and general well-being. Thanks to the great mental security that these gems give you, labradorites automatically make you calm and soothed. This pleasant feeling of serenity allows you to sleep more easily and to have beautiful dreams.

If you have trouble enjoying solitude, the labradorite gemstone can help you reconcile with your own company.

To do this, it invites you to begin a work of introspection and to be more attentive to your needs. If you are hypersensitive by nature, Labradorite can help you better control your emotions. While you will always feel compassion and empathy for others, Labradorite will protect you from harmful energies and people who try to drain your energy.

LABRADORITE MEANING ON THE PHYSICAL LEVEL

On the physical level, labradorite stone strengthens the immune system. It stimulates blood circulation and contributes to the good health of arteries. It facilitates digestion and soothes abdominal pain. Powerful and protective, labradorite has a positive action on all the organs of the body.

It complements very well with the eye of tiger to feel fully secure. It can be used to reduce migraines and headaches, to fight against eye disorders, but also to support the balance of the digestive system.

In addition to acting as a shield on your body, labradorite helps to regain energy, willpower and dynamism. It offers a true revival of breath and vitality during a period of convalescence, during winter, or quite simply when you feel physically exhausted.

On the one hand, it helps you to rest better at night by offering you a deep and restorative sleep. On the other hand, it brings you the necessary energy to realize your daily missions in all serenity. An ideal stone to keep close to you in case of big tiredness or low morale.

LABRADORITE MEANING ON THE SPIRITUAL LEVEL

From a spiritual point of view, practitioners, therapists, mediums, and all people who work in a context of helping others, can wear a labradorite stone to protect their aura from negative waves. If you feel drained after a long discussion with someone, especially in the context of helping them, don't hesitate to wear a labradorite to protect and maintain your vitality.

The labradorite gemstone is associated with the heart chakra and the solar plexus chakra. The heart chakra is the central point of the 7 chakras. It represents tenderness, sincerity and unconditional love. When harmonized, the heart chakra promotes joy of living, self-confidence, inner peace and serenity. It helps you to receive and give love, to communicate better with others and to show tenderness.

Moreover, its action on the solar plexus chakra facilitates the distribution of physical, mental and subtle energies. When the solar plexus chakra is open and balanced, the digestion of emotions and events is facilitated. Generally speaking, this chakra promotes discernment, efficiency, commitment, enthusiasm, respect and tolerance. If you can keep this chakra healthy, you will find it easier to make the right decisions.

Labradorite is a calming stone that helps you to let go and express yourself with calmness and objectivity. It protects you from all the surrounding harmful waves and pushes you to become the best version of yourself. In crystal healing, labradorite is an ideal stone of protection to accompany you on the path of wisdom and spiritual awakening.

STONES AND MATERIALS TO COMBINE WITH LABRADORITE

The metallic blue highlights of the labradorite gemstone work well with silver, white gold and white gold jewelry (e.g., a pearl bracelet with a silver clasp, or a ring or earrings with a silver setting). That said, you can opt for yellow or rose gold jewelry to bring more contrast to the blue and make your labradorite gem look even more luxurious and sophisticated.

If you prefer a pendant, in the shape of a drop for example, then you can put a silver or gold cord or chain to attach it to your neck. If you choose bracelets instead, either a 6mm, 8mm or 10mm beaded bracelet, or a 12mm or 14mm beaded bracelet, then consider wearing it on your right arm to ward off negative energies from your body. As a necklace, it should be worn for protection as well.

Each labradorite product will bring you the properties outlined above. Wearing a necklace of this gemstone totally restores the brilliance of this mineral through its beads from an aesthetic point of view, and its powers from a therapeutic point of view. The advantage of the necklace over the bracelet is that it is placed directly around the neck, and therefore it is positioned near the solar plexus chakra.

Labradorite is both a protective and spiritual stone. If you wish to combine it with another stone, you must be careful not to combine contradictory effects. To strengthen its spiritual aspect, you can combine it with an amethyst or a moonstone. To increase its security power tenfold, you can wear it with a tiger's eye, an obsidian, a larvikite, amber but also with copper.

However, you should avoid wearing a labradorite stone with an emerald, a peridot, a shungite or a malachite. These stones deliver waves that are too powerful and energizing to let the labradorite stone express itself. You can wear them on different jewelry so as not to inhibit the soothing and protective properties of labradorite.

How to clean and recharge Labradorite

After a while, minerals become energetically discharged. To preserve their powers and natural beauty, you must take the time to clean and recharge them at least once a month. In this case, the labradorite stone acts as a shield and absorbs harmful energies to protect you on a daily basis.

It is thus essential to purify it to empty it of all these negative waves accumulated. Purification can be done with water, earth and incense. The simplest method is to soak your labradorite gem in a container of unsalted distilled water for a few hours. Always use spring water rather than tap water, which could damage your stone.

After the purification stage comes the recharging stage. To recharge a labradorite gemstone, simply expose it to moonlight for a few hours. Full moon nights are ideal for this ritual. You can also place your stone on a cluster of quartz or on an amethyst geode to amplify its powers. Avoid sunlight which is far too aggressive for this complex and delicate stone.
